Co-op in Saints Row: The Third

Co-op is two players, drop-in and drop-out. There is no split-screen and no competitive mode. There is no cross-play between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. Steam Remastered cannot join GOG Remastered.

How a session is formed

The multiplayer wiki page describes two-player co-op only. Offline play on consoles is system link between two machines, not two controllers on one TV. Console online features on the 2011 game also sat behind Online Pass. Remastered on modern stores uses that platform’s own network: PlayStation Plus on PS5, Xbox Live on Xbox, Galaxy for GOG online features.

Xbox’s “cross-gen multiplayer” phrase is Xbox One with Xbox Series. I keep that narrower than “cross-platform,” because the store page does not mention PlayStation or Steam.

Servers in 2026

I do not have an official 2026 server-status post. I will not write that the servers are closed, and I will not write that they are healthy. Availability is whatever the platform network still routes. My Steelport, the character-sharing site, shut down on 31 Jan 2018. That shutdown hits the upload achievement. It is not the co-op switch.

If you want more than two players on PC Remastered, the community project people mean is SR3MP, covered on the more-players mod page. It is a separate sandbox, not campaign co-op, and its authors marked it abandoned.

FAQ

Is there split-screen?

No. Local console play is system link between two consoles.

Can Steam play with GOG?

Not on Remastered. PCGamingWiki records those stores as separate networks.

Does the 2018 shutdown kill co-op?

The 2018 shutdown was My Steelport character sharing. Co-op uses the platform network, which is a different service.
