The 2011 original

The original Saints Row: The Third launched in November 2011 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows. Console co-op and character sharing needed an Online Pass. Steam and GOG copies did not. A native Linux build arrived on Steam on 15 Apr 2016.

Launch calendar

Wikipedia’s dates are 15 Nov 2011 for North America and Australia, 18 Nov 2011 for Europe, and 17 Nov 2011 for Japan. THQ published it. Volition developed it. The Japanese release removed the phallic detail from the melee weapon called the Penetrator while leaving the physics. That regional cut is the original game, not a Remastered toggle.

Metacritic scores recorded for that launch window are PC 84, PlayStation 3 82, and Xbox 360 84. Steam’s 2011 store page showed 94 percent from 19,118 English-language reviews on 31 Oct 2026. I treat the critic numbers and the Steam percentage as different instruments.

Online Pass and Linux

The Online Pass page on the Saints Row wiki says console players needed the pass for co-op and character sharing. Steam and GOG players did not. I have no 2026 publisher status page for the original console servers, so I will not write that they are up or that they are down. Co-op today depends on the platform network.

PCGamingWiki documents the native Linux build. Remastered does not have that native build; Proton is a separate topic on the Linux page. Minimum specs for this 2011 Windows build are Windows XP, a 2 GHz dual core, 2 GB of RAM, a 320 MB Shader Model 3.0 GPU, DirectX 9.0c, and 10 GB of disk.

FAQ

Can I still buy the 2011 PC version?

Steam still lists app 55230 separately from Remastered app 978300. Use the download page for the current store links.

Does the original include the story DLC?

Not by default. The 2012 Full Package is the bundle that adds the three story packs. The base 2011 game sold them separately.
