Remastered vs the 2011 original

Remastered changes lighting, materials, vehicles, and weapons, and it bundles most add-on packs. The 2011 game is the build modders still target. Steam scores on 31 Oct 2026 were 94 percent for the original and 70 percent for Remastered. Those are different samples.

Picture and content

The original uses the 2011 presentation. Remastered, per Steam and PCGamingWiki, replaces lighting and materials and reworks vehicles and weapons. That is a visual and asset pass, not a new campaign. Story missions stay the Steelport plot.

DLC is the practical split. The 2011 game sold packs separately. Remastered includes the three story packs and the large item set, and it still excludes the Team Fortress 2 masks, Bloodsucker, and the Unlockable pack. If a guide tells you to buy the Unlockable pack for SWAT, that instruction belongs to the original, not to Remastered.

Scores, co-op, saves

Steam showed 94 percent from 19,118 reviews on the 2011 app and 70 percent from 2,240 reviews on Remastered. I refuse to average them. The older game has a decade of extra reviews, and the newer page is where people complain about the port.

PCGamingWiki and the store pages agree that Steam Remastered and GOG Remastered do not co-op with each other. I found no official sentence about importing a 2011 save. The cell stays empty.

FAQ

Which one is better?

For a console 60fps upgrade and the story packs, Remastered. For the 2011 modding path, the original. The review page keeps the critic scores next to current prices.

Do they share multiplayer?

No cross-play is documented between the 2011 PC stores and Remastered, or between Steam and GOG copies of Remastered.
