No car sound at high frame rates

Engine noise that drops out while the frame rate is high is a known bug on both the 2011 game and Remastered. There is no official patch in the sources I used. The community response with a written readme is SR.MixFix.

What MixFix says it does

The SR.MixFix readme says it fixes vehicle engine audio breaking at high fps, and it can also lift the frame cap and remove black bars. It ships as an ASI plugin: SRTT.MixFix.x86.asi for the 2011 game and SRTTR.MixFix.x64.asi for Remastered, loaded with an ASI loader. I am describing the files the readme names. I am not hosting them.

Install order from that readme: put the loader and the matching asi next to the game executable. The 2011 executable and the Remastered executable are different, which is why the plugin names differ. Using the x86 file on Remastered will not load.

How sure this is

Two writeups agree this is a high-fps bug and that MixFix targets it. That is not a guarantee for every machine. If the car is silent at 60fps with vsync on, look for a muted slider or a device change before you add a plugin. Status: 2 sources, community fix.

FAQ

Is there an official patch?

Not in PCGamingWiki or the MixFix readme. The documented response is the community ASI plugin.

Does it work on Remastered and the original?

The readme ships a separate asi for each. Match the file to the game.
